Setup, FAQ & troubleshooting

Covers both product lines. Model-specific known issues are listed on the AquaJet and DuraPress download pages.

Setting up a new printer

  1. Unbox and install the ink or toner. AquaJet units ship with starter cartridges already seated; DuraPress units ship with the drum and toner separate — fit the drum unit first, then the toner cartridge, following the arrows moulded into the covers.
  2. Power on and clear the language/region prompt on the control panel. This also sets the paper-size default used by the driver later.
  3. Connect — USB for the base variants, or Wi-Fi/Ethernet for the W/DW/DN variants. For Wi-Fi, use Settings › Network › Wi-Fi setup wizard and make sure you are joining the 2.4 GHz band (see the FAQ below).
  4. Install the driver from the matching download page (AquaJet / DuraPress) for your operating system. The installer finds the printer automatically on the same network; for USB, connect the cable only when the installer asks for it.
  5. Print a test page from the driver’s properties screen, and run a nozzle check (AquaJet) or a print-quality test page (DuraPress) from the control panel before relying on the unit for real work.
  6. Check for a firmware update from Settings › About › Check for update, or compare the version shown there against the changelog.

Replacing an existing unit with the same model

If you are swapping in a new unit of the same model and want to keep the old one’s saved network and scan-destination settings, export them from Settings › Backup configuration on the old unit before disconnecting it, then restore the file on the new unit during first-run setup. Restoring onto a different model is not supported and the import is rejected.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the Wi-Fi setup wizard time out and never find my network?

All current AquaJet and DuraPress wireless variants support 802.11 b/g/n on the 2.4 GHz band only — there is no 5 GHz radio in this generation of hardware. If your router broadcasts a single combined SSID for both bands, create a separate 2.4 GHz-only SSID temporarily and point the wizard at that one.

My printer shows "low toner" or "low ink" right after I fitted a new cartridge.

On every current model, the level shown comes from a counter on the cartridge chip, not a physical sensor reading the actual contents. A refilled or third-party-remanufactured cartridge often has that counter left at whatever level it was at when it was removed, rather than reset to full. This is not a firmware fault and there is no update that changes it; the cartridge needs its counter reset by whoever refilled it, or needs replacing with one that resets it correctly.

Do I need to update firmware before installing a new driver?

Not usually — drivers and firmware version independently. The exception is after a large firmware jump (see the warning on the changelog page about two specific upgrades that need an intermediate build); in that case, update firmware first so the two version numbers reported to the driver stay in a combination it recognises.

Can I use the DX-series Windows driver on a server (print server / terminal server)?

Yes for DX-7700, which ships a Windows Server 2019/2022 driver and an optional fleet management agent for exactly that use. DX-3180 and DX-5400 drivers install on server editions of Windows but are only tested and supported for desktop use.

Where do I find my model number and whether I have the Wi-Fi/network variant?

Printed on the rating label under the top cover or behind the front panel, and shown on the control panel under Settings › About. The full catalogue with per-model specifications is on the models page if you want to confirm before downloading.

A firmware file I downloaded shows a different SHA256 than the one listed on this site.

Do not install it. Re-download from the link on the AquaJet or DuraPress page and check the checksum again; if it still does not match, contact support before proceeding rather than installing the file.

Troubleshooting

SymptomLikely causeWhat to do
Printer shows online on the network but Windows reports "offline" Stale IP cached by the driver after a DHCP lease renewal Remove and re-add the printer in Windows, or assign a DHCP reservation so the IP stops changing
Scan-to-email fails after working previously Stored mail password no longer valid Re-enter the credential under Settings › Scan › Email on the control panel
Duplex pages come out with the second side blank Heavier paper stock (120–160 gsm) on older firmware Update to the current firmware for your model; fixed from AquaJet 1.22.14 / DuraPress V58.21 onward
Firmware update is rejected immediately with a signature error Attempting to skip the required intermediate build Install the intermediate version listed on the changelog page first
Finisher (DX-7700) jams on the very first job of the day Rollers settle during a long idle period overnight Run Settings › Maintenance › Finisher self-test before the first job; fixed in V60.08
